This fall, the number of grant applications we received to fund innovative teaching projects and professional development opportunities more than doubled from the previous round of grants. The number of students taking college courses in high school through dual credit classes grew 142% over the past five years, and the number of credit hours they’re taking doubled, which means a greater need for textbook scholarships.
We have more students, more needs, more great teaching ideas to challenge those students, but less state funding. As LISD Board of Trustees President Pam Waggoner said at LEEF’s recent Night Under the Giving Tree, the extra resources and funds that LEEF can provide to our schools is more important now than ever before.
