Thank you to all our amazing drivers and operators in the Leander ISD Bus Transportation department. This department should be thanked each and every day for the team’s hard work, commitment to Leander ISD students and professionalism transporting 45,000 individuals every day, which is more than the number of passengers coming into and out of Austin-Bergstrom airport. The Leander Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) awarded its first grant to the Transportation Department in August for $5,000. Bus Operator Scott Colvin identified a program that needed improvement and took the time and initiative to apply for funding, illustrating two of Leander ISD’s Core Beliefs – Empowered Staff and Safe and Innovative Learning Environments.
Mr. Colvin shared with LEEF that receiving these funds to improve the training video will offer a more inclusive and engaging learning environment for the trainee and an increase in success rates for student/trainee.
Did you know each of Leander ISD’s buses have to pass 48 federal safety regulations, more than any other vehicle. It’s more than just a yellow bus, saving 700 gallons of gasoline each year and does the job of 36 passenger cars on the road each day. The LEEF Board of Directors recognizes that its funding is needed beyond the classroom to support and enhance all departments at LISD. Once implemented this funded initiative will improve the cost and efficiency of the overall bus transportation department.
LEEF has funded $1,000,000 in teaching grants since inception. “It is our generous community, LISD staff, families and business partners that have given us the opportunity to put so many dollars back into Leander ISD programs and initiatives,” said Coleen Brighton, LEEF Executive Director. And Mr. Colvin has shown us that supporting our students goes beyond the classroom and we are honored to be able to fund this initiative.
