LEEF Increases the Number of Leveled Books for LISD Elementary Schools!

“Providing access to high-quality leveled books is a critical component of our district’s balanced literacy approach. The books that have been purchased with the funds provided by Leander Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) ensure our students have the opportunity to read a variety of highly engaging texts that support their reading journey. “We are so thankful for our partnership and the continued support that LEEF provides” says Amie Chase, Leander ISD Early Intervention Program team member.

Leander ISD’s Supplemental Reading Program (SRP) focuses on students most in need of intensive reading intervention based on district qualifying criteria. SRP allows students to grow in their literacy skills and reading wellness through skills learned in the classroom, small group reading sessions, and through access to reading level specific fiction and non-fiction books.

In 2017, the foundation was asked to help increase the number of leveled books our students had access to across all LISD elementary campuses, and in 2023 LEEF fulfilled this request. Through the support of our partners and community, LEEF provided $70,500 of funding across all 29 Leander ISD elementary schools for the Supplemental Reading Program. This has resulted in a purchase of over 20,000 books for our students! “I liked these books because they were easy and fun for me to read!” – LISD 1st Grader. The funding also allowed the school autonomy to choose the books purchased based on the needs of their specific students. The LEEF team fosters a love of reading and supports teachers by funding this vital program thanks to the generosity of our community and business partners. LEEF is proud to support SRP as it continues to encourage and grow the skills of reading in our students. If you’d like to join our efforts to put books in the hands of our students AND make a difference in public education please consider becoming a LEEF monthly giver.
