Austin Tamil Sangam awards LEEF $2,000 for students

Austin Tamil Sangam (ATS) has granted an endowment to the Leander Educational Excellence Foundation (LEEF) in the amount of $2,000 thanks to its generous sponsors and funding partners.

Ashok Kumar, ATS President, expressed his deep gratitude for the work LEEF does throughout Leander ISD (LISD) to help children. This donation will be dedicated to providing a Fountas & Pinnell Classroom Guided Reading Collection to a LISD elementary campus. This set provides teachers with a variety of texts at different reading levels to meet the needs of all students.

LEEF’s Executive Director Kristen Huguley, who reads with elementary students weekly at Knowles Elementary School, knows how important it is to provide challenging and interesting texts for students. “I try my best to find books that interest the first graders who I read with because I definitely notice an increase in their reading, engagement, and comprehension levels when they love the book that we’re reading. Because of generous donations from organizations, such as ATS, we can ensure teachers have a wide variety of resources to share throughout grade levels improving students’ reading growth.”

Each advanced set costs $6,500. Businesses wishing to contribute to this program, can make a donation here and place F&P in the “Comments” text box.
